Safety and recalls

Official safety information, kept distinct

PinMonkey can help you look up official information when you ask it to. It is not the safety authority, and it does not decide that your specific vehicle or product is safe or recalled.

Safety and recalls guide for PinMonkey Shop. Vehicle recalls use NHTSA year, make, and model results and still need VIN verification. Household product recalls use CPSC possible matches that must be checked against the official notice. Consumer complaints are user reports, not official recalls. No search result is a guarantee of safety. NHTSA and CPSC are independent sources, not PinMonkey partners or endorsers.
The three lookups stay separate: vehicle recalls, household product recalls, and consumer complaints.

NHTSA vehicle recall information

Vehicle recall lookup uses the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall service. The lookup uses information such as model year, make, and model. Results can show official recall information and a link back to the government source.

A year, make, and model result does not automatically prove that one specific VIN is affected. Verify the official recall details and VIN eligibility with NHTSA or the manufacturer. Recall searches are started by you. They do not run automatically every time a vehicle appears on screen.

NHTSA is an official information source. It is not a PinMonkey partner, sponsor, affiliate, or endorser, and a link to NHTSA is not a government endorsement of PinMonkey.

CPSC household and consumer-product recall information

For a House item, you can choose Check recalls. PinMonkey searches official U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) data using the manufacturer and model saved on that item.

Because product-recall data can be incomplete or inconsistent, PinMonkey describes those results as possible matches. It does not tell you that your appliance is recalled. Confirm the model number and other identifying details in the official CPSC notice before taking action. A recall can apply only to certain model variations, production periods, or serial-number ranges.

A possible match does not prove that your specific product is recalled. CPSC is an official information source. It is not a PinMonkey partner, sponsor, affiliate, or endorser.

NHTSA consumer complaint information

Vehicle consumer complaints come from official NHTSA complaint data. They are a separate research layer from recalls.

A consumer complaint means someone submitted a report. It does not necessarily mean a defect has been confirmed, that NHTSA agrees with the complaint, that a recall exists, or that every vehicle of that model has the same problem.

What a result does not mean

  • No recall result is not proof that a vehicle or product is safe.
  • A complaint is not a recall and does not prove a defect.
  • A CPSC possible match is not a determination that your exact product is recalled.
  • A year/make/model vehicle result is not proof that your VIN is included.

PinMonkey organizes and presents this information. It does not replace NHTSA, CPSC, the manufacturer, a qualified mechanic, a professional home-equipment technician, or an inspection. No search result is a guarantee of safety.
